Spectator Behavior Alert

GFCYSL Fall 2023 Teams

Dear Soccer Parents,

GCFYSL is growing concerned over increased reports of poor and even dangerous behavior by spectstors at league games. Players and officials have experienced inappropriate language, verbal harassment, and even physical threats. Games have been stopped due to sideline misconduct. While we know most of you follow the standards outlined in the FYSA Code of Ethics, we would like to remind everyone to not yell insults at or interact with players on the field. This is youth soccer and children should not be subjected to harassment from the sideline.

Also note that spectators are not allowed on the field or at the bench at any time before or after a game. Once a game is complete, please leave the sideline and meet your player at a pre-designated point. Under no circumstance should a parent approach an opponent player, coach, or parent, as well as referees, in anger.

Each club has a league Point of Contact (POC). If you feel a game issue needs to be addressed, contact your club’s Director who will work with the POC and GCF.

Below are the FYSA Code of Ethics. We support parents who are passionate about their child’s soccer experience. Please support your player with positive, non-distracting conduct. Help eliminate hostile behavior targeted towards players, coaches, parents, and most notably referees to make youth soccer a safe and fun environment.

Thank you,
GCFYSL
